MEDICARE BULK BILLING
Sydney Women’s Counselling Centre has incorporated a contracted Medicare Service Provider (MSP)/Access to Allied Psychological Services (ATAPS) program into the counselling services offered at the Centre. This program is run by a registered psychologist and offers a no cost to clients ( bulk billing) attending the Centre. The MSP/ATAPS program works collaboratively with the Centre’s other programs to ensure best outcomes for clients and can be an entry pathway into longer term counselling programs.
Counselling is client focused, confidential and conducted in a supportive, trustworthy respectful environment with individually tailored treatment options utilising each person’s inner strengths to resolve their problems and reach their life goals.
The Medicare Counselling Program offers free counselling and psychological services for clients referred from their GP under Medicare’s Better Access to Mental Health Initiative (a GP referral and mental health plan is required) and covers a range of presenting issues including.

- Perinatal mental health and grief
- Adjustment problems
- Grief and Loss
- Low self esteem
- Parenting Issues
- Pregnancy options & support
- Relationship difficulties
- Stress management
- Women’s health issues
The program offers up to 10 sessions per calendar year. (GP review after
The ATAPS Counselling Program (aligns with Tier 2 services), requires a referral from an ATAPS registered GP and is for clients extensively presenting with
- mental health disorders
- perinatal depression
- significant risk of suicide
- risk of homelessness due to domestic violence and/or other complex childhood abuse issues.
The program offers up to 18 sessions per calendar year with a GP review required every 6 sessions.

Both MSP and ATAPS are government subsided programs and are governed by federal health legislation providing much needed access to mental health services to individuals who otherwise may not have access to these crucial services.
